Dean of Students announces new appointments in key positions
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University Dean of Students Dione Somerville has announced four new hires in key positions within her office.
Michelle Boettcher is the new assistant dean of students and director of judicial affairs, and Sara Kellogg was selected as the assistant director of judicial affairs. Both served interim appointments in these offices during the searches for the permanent candidates.
Prior to serving in judicial affairs, Boettcher was a hall director in Martin Hall. She has experience at Dartmouth College, Ohio University, the University of Cincinnati and the University of Arkansas.
Kellogg most recently served as the coordinator of Iowa State's substance abuse and violence prevention program. She previously worked at Youth and Shelter Services as a primary and extended youth treatment case manager.
"These positions help educate students regarding decisions that affect their standards of behavior," Somerville said. "They are also important partners on campus in a variety of outreach efforts including supporting Veishea, the Greek community and staffing our emergency dean on call system."
Somerville also announced the appointment of Bradley Freihoefer as the coordinator of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender student services. He will start on Nov. 17.
Freihoefer received a bachelor's degree in women's studies from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and will complete a certificate in non-profit leadership in December. While at Minnesota State, he was extensively involved in the LGBT Center, and volunteered as an advocate for victims of sexual assault at the Sexual Violence Resource Center of Blue Earth County.
"We're pleased to have this position in place as it will offer much needed support to students and serve as a resource for the campus community," Somerville said.
In addition, Michael Vande Voort has been selected as the business manager II in the Dean of Students Office, and will begin on Nov. 10. Vande Voort has recent experience at FBL Financial Group, corporate services in West Des Moines, and also at Sauer-Danfoss' open circuit business unit in Ames.
