Tyson Foods director to speak on corporate social responsibility at ISU
AMES, Iowa -- Tyson Foods community and public relations director Ed Nicholson will speak at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, in the Memorial Union Sun Room at Iowa State University. The event is free and open to the public.
Nicholson is an executive for one of the largest food processors and marketing companies in the world. His talk, "A Nation Hungry for Corporate Social Responsibility," focuses on Tyson Foods' efforts to fight hunger.
Since 2000, Tyson Foods had donated more than 50 million pounds of food products to companies around the world in efforts to combat hunger and provide disaster relief. The company recently provided more than 25 truckloads of chicken and pork to the disaster areas affected by hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Tyson Foods has also partnered with RAGBRAI to raise funds and hunger awareness in the state of Iowa.
To continue their efforts in hunger relief, nonperishable food items will be accepted at the door during Nicholson's lecture. These items will be donated to Mid-Iowa Community Action Inc.
Nicholson has been with Tyson Foods since 1995. He previously owned the marketing and advertising firm The Works, and worked as a creative director, writer and producer for Smith and Jennings.
The lecture is cosponsored by the ISU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America and the Committee on Lectures. For more information on lectures at ISU, visit http://www.lectures.iastate.edu or call (515) 294-9935.
