Search begins for vice president post at Iowa State

AMES, Iowa -- An 18-member search committee has been assembled to find the next vice president for research and economic development at Iowa State University. Alex King, director of the Ames Laboratory, will serve as chair of the committee.

"We are looking for a nationally recognized research leader who will build on John Brighton's important accomplishments and help us take the research and economic development enterprises at Iowa State to the next level," said Elizabeth Hoffman, executive vice president and provost.

Hoffman said plans are to have someone in place by the 2009 spring semester. Nominations can be sent to vsearch@iastate.edu.

John Brighton retired as vice president for research and economic development at the conclusion of the spring semester. Ted Okiishi, professor emeritus in mechanical engineering and former associate dean for research and outreach in the College of Engineering, is serving as interim vice president.

Joining King on the search committee are:

  • Srinivas Aluru, professor of electrical and computer engineering and Stanley chair of interdisciplinary engineering
  • Jennifer Blackhurst, assistant professor of logistics operations and management information systems
  • Robert Brown, professor of engineering and director of Bioeconomy Institute and Center for Sustainable Environmental Technologies
  • Steve Carter, director of Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship and ISU Research Park
  • Jack Girton, professor of biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology
  • David Holger, associate provost and Graduate College dean
  • Mary Holz-Clause, ISU Extension interim associate vice president
  • Doug Johnston, professor and chair of landscape architecture, and community and regional planning
  • Anumantha Kanthasamy, professor of biomedical sciences, chair of neurotoxicology, and director of Iowa Center for Advanced Neurotoxicology
  • Karen Lawson, University Library associate dean
  • Lynne Mumm, Professional and Scientific Council president-elect and IPRT technology commercialization associate
  • Pam Riney-Kehrberg, professor of history
  • Max Rothschild, professor of animal science and director of Center for Integrated Animal Genomics
