Reiman Entrepreneur Speaker Series to feature Baked Lays creator on March 5

AMES, Iowa -- The inventor, creator and former brand manager of "Baked Lays" potato chips, Jeffrey Stamp, will give a luncheon presentation as part of the Reiman Entrepreneur Speaker Series on Wednesday, March 5, at 11:45 a.m. in the Sun Room of Iowa State University's Memorial Union.

Now an assistant professor and chair of entrepreneurship and innovation at the University of North Dakota, Stamp will give a talk titled, "It Isn't About the Box! Conquering Creativity in the Entrepreneurship Classroom or in Business: Why it Fails, and How to Win!" The luncheon is free to the first 150 who register through the ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship Web site at http://www.isupjcenter.org/forms/form_reimanspeakers.cfm.

"Jeff Stamp is known nationally as a creativity expert, and we have lots of different activities planned while he is here so people can interact with him," said Don Draper, University Professor of biomedical sciences and Dr. David R. Trask Professorship in Entrepreneurial Studies in ISU's College of Veterinary Medicine. Draper serves on Iowa State's Entrepreneurship Faculty Leaders committee.

Stamp earned PepsiCo's Frito Lay division the designation of Ernst & Young's top brand introduction in the 1990s. Baked Lays achieved $230 million in first-year sales.

Following his corporate life, he built his own successful business as a master brand innovator in both consumer goods and technology arenas. After selling his first venture, he served for six years as chief trained brain and vice president of technology for Richard Saunders International's Eureka! Ranch -- a top new product and service creativity think tank. In recognition of their original R&D efforts, Stamp and his team were awarded the George Land World-Class Innovator Award from the Innovation Network and Fast Company Magazine. Products created by Stamp appear in markets worldwide.

Stamp delivers 45 keynotes on average annually. He has co-authored four books on creativity and marketing topics and received the 2008 Excellence in Entrepreneurship Education Award given by the Acton Foundation.

In addition to his public talk, Stamp will also lead two student workshops -- co-sponsored by the Pappajohn Center and the Entrepreneurship in Human Sciences class in apparel, education studies and hospitality management -- at 6 and 8 p.m. on March 5. He will present a 1 p.m. faculty workshop on Thursday, March 6, sponsored by ISU's Center for Excellence in Learning & Teaching. Additional information and registration for those workshops is also available through the Pappajohn Center's Web site at http://www.isupjcenter.org/.

The Reiman Entrepreneurial Lecture Series was established through a gift from Roy and Bobbi Reiman of Greendale, Wis. The lecture series features an entrepreneurial guest speaker who spends two days at Iowa State University meeting with students, faculty, and business leaders. The guest speaker also gives a community lecture on campus.

The ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship connects university faculty, researchers and students to the entrepreneurial world, while also providing Iowa's business and entrepreneurial community access to resources and information within the university. It also provides assistance to entrepreneurs in their efforts to launch new ventures.
