NAACP Awards
Students, faculty and staff were recognized this
year at the NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet, held Feb. 2.
- The Office of the President, the City of Ames and the
Government of the Student Body were honored for their
contributions to the renovation of the Black Cultural Center and their
advancement of the "one community" concept.
- The Ames Police Benefit Association was honored with the NAACP's Making
a Difference Award for its contribution to
the Black Cultural Center.
- The Black Student Alliance received the Making a Difference
Award for its leadership and
initiative with the BCC renovation.
- Mack Shelley, professor of statistics, received the Making a
Difference Award in honor of his lifetime commitment to helping
students achieve their academic goals, especially those disadvantaged by
educational preparation, environmental circumstance or economic station
in life.
- Dawniece Trumbo, senior in marketing, received the
Outstanding Student Award for excellence in scholarship,
leadership and community service.
