New teaching innovation, entrepreneurship projects funded by College of Human Sciences
The College of Human Sciences Entrepreneurial Program and Teaching Innovation Initiatives offered a total of $75,000 to fund winning proposals related to teaching innovations, and another $75,000 for entrepreneurial-related proposals. Seven new ISU faculty-led projects were funded through this new competitive initiative.
Iowa State is among Washington Monthly's top-ranked universities
For the third consecutive year, Iowa State University is ranked among the top U.S. universities by Washington Monthly magazine. Washington Monthly bills its college rankings as a "guide not just to what colleges can do for you, but what colleges are doing for the country."
Iowa State and DMACC work together to increase engineering graduates
Iowa State University and Des Moines Area Community College will work together to attract more students to engineering. At Iowa State, the goal is 120 more students earning bachelor's degrees in engineering. At Des Moines Area Community College, the goal is more students studying science and technology. That's expected to increase the number of students transferring to Iowa State's College of Engineering.
Iowa State University officials were informed Aug. 19 of an assault that allegedly occurred at 203 Ash Ave. on Friday, Aug. 17. The victim, a female ISU student, reported that three or four unknown men restrained and inappropriately touched her. The victim was not physically harmed and was able to escape. Identities of the men involved remain unknown. Anyone with further information about the incident or the suspects should call ISU Police at (515) 294-4428.

ISU Professor of Exercise Physiology Rick Sharp was part of a design team that created Speedo's new Fastskin FS-Pro swimsuit, which is being credited with helping world class swimmers break dozens of national and international records in the six months since its release.
Coach concerned about missing student-athlete
Head cross country and track coach Corey Ihmels is concerned for the well-being of Yonas Mebrahtu Gebretinsae, a young runner from Eritrea, recruited by the Cyclones and admitted to the university. He is supposed to start running for Iowa State as a freshman this fall. Ihmels said the 19-year-old hasn't been heard from since he left his home in late June to make his way to Ethiopia and then on to Kenya to process his student visa in Nairobi.
U.S. News rankings: ISU among top 25 percent of public national universities
Iowa State University is among the top one-fourth of all public national universities in U.S. News & World Report's 2008 "America's Best Colleges" annual rankings. U.S. News ranks Iowa State 38th among 164 public national universities, down slightly from 36th last year.

Geoffroy part of Spellings' higher ed delegation to Latin America
ISU president Gregory Geoffroy will join U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings and seven other college and university presidents on a visit to Latin America to tout the importance of higher education partnerships and exchanges among nations. Spellings will lead the delegation to Chile and Brazil, where it will promote the value of U.S. higher education and discuss future international collaborations.
