John Kerry to kick off ISU student government's Political Action Week

AMES, Iowa -- Former and possible future Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry will be at Iowa State on Monday, Oct. 2, to help launch the Government of the Student Body's Political Action Week.

Kerry will speak about the importance of student involvement in the political process during a 10:30 a.m. address on central campus.

Political Action Week, which continues through Oct. 6, is a bipartisan event addressing such topics as national security, equal rights, student issues and the environment. The event includes presentations by faculty and elected officials, discussions and free food on central campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. All events are free and open to the public.

Student organizers say the goal is to promote civic thought, dialogue and action among 18- to 24-year-olds, who vote less than any other age group.
