Delaware Senator Biden to present Manatt-Phelps Lecture in Political Science Oct. 31

AMES, Iowa -- U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del., will present the fifth annual Manatt-Phelps Lecture in Political Science at Iowa State University. He will speak on "Rethinking America's Future Security" at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in the Sun Room, Memorial Union. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Biden is Delaware's senior U.S. senator and is the ranking Democrat on both the Senate's Foreign Relations Committee, and Judiciary Committee. He is considered one of the Democratic Party's leading voices on foreign policy and national security.

Prior to his election to the Senate, Biden practiced law in Wilmington and served on the New Castle County Council from 1970 to 1972. Since 1991, Biden has been an adjunct professor at the Widener University School of Law, where he teaches a seminar on constitutional law. He graduated from the University of Delaware in 1965, and from the Syracuse University College of Law in 1968.

Thomas and Elizabeth Phelps, and Charles and Kathleen Manatt, established the annual Manatt-Phelps Lecture in Political Science. The annual fall lectures focus on significant developments in international political economy during the previous year, and how the issues affect and are affected by Iowa.
