College combination adapts to changing needs of families, students
Last July, Iowa State combined its College of Education and College of Family and Consumer Sciences into a new College of Human Sciences. One year later, officials are pleased at how the new "combination college" is stimulating greater multidisciplinary interaction among faculty -- providing a more contemporary education for students to meet society's changing human needs.
Dining director forums July 17, 18
Open forums for two candidates for director of ISU Dining will held on campus next week. The campus community can meet Steve Edwards, director of board operations in University Dining at North Carolina State University, Raleigh, at a July 17 forum, and Fred Wencel, resident district manager for Chartwells/Compass Group, St. Louis University, at a July 18 forum.The forums are scheduled for 2 to 3 p.m. in the Memorial Union Cardinal Room.
Grad student earns trip to research conference
Katrina Duttweiler, a graduate student in plant pathology, has been selected to receive a free trip to the annual meeting of the American Phytopathological Society Foundation in Quebec City, Canada, July 29- Aug. 2. While there, she will present a poster on her research.
Study finds overweight women exercise harder, experience less pleasure
According to a recent study by Iowa State University researchers, overweight people exercise at a higher intensity of their peak aerobic capacity than their normal-weight counterparts -- producing a gradual decrease in pleasure over time.
Interest builds in criminal justice program
A new academic program in criminal justice is drawing student interest. Approximately 140 students have declared a major in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in criminology and criminal.
What to do if your dog has separation anxiety
An ISU veterinarian will provide basic information on how to deal with a dog with separation anxiety during a seminar for pet owners on July 25. The seminar, "Velcro Dogs: Basic Prevention and Treatment Suggestions for Separation Anxiety," is free and open to the public.
ISU researcher tests combustion for NASA
Iowa State researchers will drop a test rig eight stories to learn more about the combustion of powders as part of a research project for NASA.
Geoffroy accepts budget report
President Gregory Geoffroy has accepted the fourth and final report from the committee that has been working on a new budget model for Iowa State for nearly a year. Over the next several months, the university community will review and further refine the budget model recommended in the report.
