Additional U.S. News rankings of Iowa State

AMES, Iowa --- Iowa State's College of Business moved up in the recent rankings issued by U.S. News & World Report. The 2007 edition of "America's Best Colleges" places the college 47th among 123 undergraduate public business programs, up three places from the prior ranking.

"We're pleased at our improved ranking this year. Earning this level of respect from our peers speaks volumes about the quality of the business education at Iowa State," said Labh Hira, dean of the College of Business. "We continue to be a destination school for undergraduate business students in Iowa."

The ranking is based on the opinions of deans and senior business faculty across the country. U.S. News considers approximately 450 public and private business programs, but only lists the top 183 in the latest rankings. On this list, the College of Business improved four places to 73rd.

A traditional strength at Iowa State also is given special recognition by U.S. News. Iowa State is ranked 6th among the top 12 agricultural engineering programs in the U.S. The ranking is based on the opinions of deans and senior engineering faculty nationwide.

"We're honored to be recognized again this year as one of the very best programs in the nation," said Mark J. Kushner, dean of the College of Engineering. "For more than a century, we've been educating engineers to deal with real problems and find new technologies to improve agricultural and biosystems engineering."

Iowa State's undergraduate engineering program is ranked 23rd among public universities that offer the doctorate degree.

U.S. News also includes Iowa State among universities with outstanding academic programs that contribute to student success. Iowa State is one of only 25 public colleges and universities cited for "First-year experiences," and one of only 10 public universities recognized for "Internships/co-ops."
