Iowa State Department of Public Safety invites students to take a walk for safety
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State's Department of Public Safety is sponsoring a Campus Safety Walk at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22.
The walk allows members of campus to point out anything they feel might be unsafe, said Deborah Larkin of the Department of Public Safety.
"We are really trying to get the community involved in the safety of campus," she said.
Anyone interested in taking part should meet in the parking lot on the north side of the armory. Participants will then divide into teams and go to different areas of the campus.
Specifically, people will be asked to point out any overgrown bushes that may make sidewalks unsafe, street lights that need replacing, areas on campus that would benefit from more lighting, buckled sidewalks or any other unsafe situation.
When the suggestions are collected from all the groups, the Department of Public Safety will forward them to Facilities Planning and Management department for action.
"We welcome anyone to come along," said Larkin.
