Bronson named associate vice provost for research

AMES, Iowa -- Charlotte Bronson, currently the chair of Iowa State University's department of plant pathology, will be the university's associate vice provost for research.

Bronson's appointment is effective Oct. 1.

"I am looking forward to meeting with faculty across campus and getting their perspectives on ways to enhance the research mission of the university," Bronson said.

Bronson is a professor of plant pathology and has been at Iowa State since 1982. Her research is focused on understanding and controlling corn and soybean diseases caused by fungi. She has a 1969 bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, a 1974 master's degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and a 1981 doctoral degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing.

John Brighton, Iowa State's vice provost for research, said he appreciates Bronson's experience working with faculty as a department chair, her track record as a successful researcher and teacher and her recent activities in strategic planning. He said he also appreciates her work in the plant sciences.

"I thought Dr. Bronson was a good match given her background that reflects one of the significant strengths of the university," Brighton said.
