Dairy Science Club's online auction generates funds for memorial scholarship

AMES, Iowa -- The Iowa State University Dairy Science Club is holding its fourth annual online auction to generate funds for the Alison Ciancio Memorial Scholarship.

Bids are being taken on 35 donated items, including an Iowa State Fair banner honoring the butter cow and other dairy-related antiques and crafts. The auction, which runs Friday, Nov. 11, through noon, Friday, Nov. 18, is at http://www.ag.iastate.edu/auctions/ciancio.

All proceeds will go for scholarships to benefit students in the dairy club that demonstrate a commitment to help others through community activities.

Ciancio was an ISU sophomore majoring in animal science when she was killed in a January 2002 car accident near her Pennsylvania home. She was an active member of the Dairy Science Club and the Seeing Eye Foundation.

For more information about the auction or scholarship, contact Howard Tyler, associate professor of animal science, (515) 294-6434.
