MEDIA ADVISORY: Vet Med students and faculty to eastern Iowa

A group of Iowa State University veterinary medicine faculty and students will head to eastern Iowa at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, to provide care for more than 60 neglected horses removed March 2 from a farm near Palo.

The horses, which have been cared for temporarily by the Iowa Equine Rescue Network, require de-worming and other medical attention before they can be moved to foster care.

The ISU College of Veterinary Medicine was able to obtain donated medicines from Fort Dodge Animal Health. The ISU group will donate their time to administer, evaluate and treat the horses. Dr. David Wong, assistant professor and section head, equine medicine, will lead the group.

Reporters are invited to talk with the group Tuesday morning before they leave from the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Contact Tracy Raef, veterinary medicine communications, (515) 294-4602.
