Robbery reported at ISU student apartment
AMES, Iowa - A student resident in ISU's University Family Housing was robbed Tuesday night, June 28.
The robbery was reported to Iowa State University Police at approximately 9:40 p.m.
The resident reported that a male suspect walked through the unlocked front door of his apartment in Building 32, Schilletter Village. He then pointed a firearm at the resident and demanded cash. The resident presented his billfold, which contained no cash. The suspect took a bank card and asked the resident for his personal identification number (PIN). The suspect asked the resident to wait in the bathroom, then took a laptop and video camera before leaving the apartment.
The victim reported that the suspect was very polite throughout the incident, and told the resident he would not be hurt.
The suspect is described as a young (college-aged) black male, thin build, wearing baggy pants and a dark shirt.
"Home invasion robberies are very rare in Ames and on the Iowa State campus," said ISU Police Captain Rob Bowers. "While we believe this is an isolated incident, we want to remind members of the community that their safety is more important than money or property. In many circumstances, cooperation with the robber is the safest course of action to take."
