Storms Hall and Knapp Hall demolition timeline
Following is the sequence of events that will occur on Tuesday, July
19, prior to the demolition of Knapp and Storms Halls on the Iowa
State University campus.
This is based on weather conditions and crowd control. We will have
special areas designated for media. If you are interested in filming
the implosion, please call Annette Hacker at 294-3720 for more
information on these locations.
||Personnel from Controlled Demolition (CDI) Inc,
Phoenix, Md., will visually inspect each level of the buildings to
insure that the structure is clear of personnel.
||Barricades will be set up and police will secure the
||CDI will check and perform final hook-ups of
electrical circuitry for implosion operations.
||Seismographs will be set up.
||Security area will be totally closed.
||The Command Post will be established at a
predetermined location. In attendance at the Command Post will be
representatives from CDI, Peterson, Iowa State University, the Police
and Fire Departments.
||Police will check and verify the security area is
||Confirm that the security area is clear.
Police will pull back to boundary of security area.
After notification that the police are "all clear," two siren
blasts will signify the beginning of a two-minute warning.
||CDI personnel will pull back to the designated areas.
Once CDI personnel are in place, a 10-second siren will sound to
designate that it is one minute before the implosion.
||Three, two-second long sirens will indicate that it is
15 seconds prior to detonation.
||An audible countdown (10, 9, 8 ) over a loudspeaker
will be performed.
||Implosion of Storms and Knapp Halls.
||CDI and Peterson will inspect the demolition area and
sound two short signals to designate an "all clear."
||At any time following the two-minute warning, if the security
area is breached, the countdown will be stopped until the area is
clear. Once an "all clear" has been recognized, the countdown will
commence again at two minutes.
