Geoffroy joins NCAA board of directors
Ames, IA -- Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffroy has been named to the Division I board of directors of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as the representative of the Big 12 Conference.
He will serve a four-year term.
"I'm honored to represent the Big 12, one of the nation's premier athletic conferences. Athletic programs are an important part of universities like Iowa State, and this is an important responsibility to work with other conference representatives in providing governance for the NCAA," Geoffroy said.
The NCAA is a voluntary organization through which the nation's colleges and universities govern their athletics programs. It involves more than 1,250 institutions, conferences, organizations and individuals. The 18-member board of directors is responsible for establishing the budget, general policies and strategic plan for the organization.
"President Geoffroy will be an outstanding representative for the Big 12 Conference," said Kevin Weiberg, Big 12 commissioner. "He has played an increasingly important role within the Big 12 Conference board of directors on matters related to national policy and governance. I look forward to working with him on this important assignment."
Geoffroy became president of Iowa State July 1, 2001.
