Purdue professor to head Iowa State engineering department

AMES, Iowa -- James E. Alleman will be the new chair of Iowa State University's department of civil, construction and environmental engineering.

An engineering faculty member at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., since 1982, Alleman is widely known for his research in wastewater treatment. He is the author of nearly 60 publications and has been awarded more than $6 million in research grants.

Alleman received his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind.

His Iowa State appointment is effective Aug. 15. He will spend the fall semester teaching and doing research in Greece as a Fulbright Scholar. He succeeds Lowell Greimann, who retired after 15 years as department chair.
