Tsunami Relief Project volunteers will collect donations of cash and checks in person and in red collection boxes, which will be located throughout campus, beginning Tuesday, Jan. 11. Make checks payable to "Tsunami Relief Project." Alumni who wish to donate can send contributions to Tsunami Relief Project, 211 Memorial Union, Ames, IA 50011. Collections will continue through Friday, Jan. 21. Alison Lima, a senior in biology who is leading the campus-wide effort, said 100 percent of donations will go to the American Red Cross "2695-Tsunami/Earthquake Emergency Response 2004 Fund." Memorial serviceLima said students will hold a campus memorial service Jan. 19 to remember the victims of the South Asian earthquake and tsunami. The service will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Sun Room and Terrace of the Memorial Union. Collection locationsCollection boxes will be at:
Volunteers also will collect donations in the gathering area west of the Hub, outside of Kildee Hall and near the food court in the Memorial Union. SponsorsStudent organizations participating in the Tsunami Relief Project include: Student International Medical Aid Club, Time for Peace, Engineers for a Sustainable World, Golden Key International Honor Society, Premedicine Club, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Sankalp-The Indian Literacy Focus Group, ISU Democrats and Leadership Institute for a New Century (LINC). The ISU Student Activities Center also is part of the relief effort. -30- |
