Student killed in apparent hit-and-run accident
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University Police have identified the student who died after being struck in an apparent hit-and-run accident early Dec. 3.
Kelly Jean Laughery, age 20, of 233 Gray Avenue, Ames, died as a result of injuries sustained after she was struck by a vehicle on Mortensen Road. Laughery was a sophomore, majoring in pre-business, from Orient, Iowa.
Investigation has shown that Laughery was walking eastbound along Mortensen Road when she was struck by a vehicle. Evidence at the scene indicated that significant damage had been done to the vehicle, especially along the front and right front (passenger side) corner. Police believe that the car involved may be a 1991-1993 Buick Century.
The investigation continues and police request assistance in identifying the vehicle and driver involved in the accident. Persons having information related to the investigation are asked to contact ISU Police at (515) 294-4428.
