Search committee formed for selection of ag dean

A 21-member committee is beginning the search for the new dean of Iowa State University's College of Agriculture and director of the Iowa Agriculture and Home Economics Experiment Station. The search committee is chaired by Labh Hira, dean of the College of Business. Hira said the committee's goal is to name a new dean by the first of the year.

Harkin views VR demo

U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, left, sees a 3-D demonstration of virtual reality technology that Iowa State University researchers believe can help the Air Force pilot swarms of unmanned aerial vehicles. Explaining the research is James Oliver, the director of the Virtual Reality Applications Center. Harkin toured the virtual reality center and the U.S. Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory on Wednesday.

Sudanese Vice President John Garang, ISU alum, dead at 60

Sudanese Vice President John Garang, who received a doctorate in economics from Iowa State in 1981, has died in a helicopter crash just three weeks after taking office. His vice presidency was a move that united former enemies in a Civil War. Since his death, riots have broken out in the Sudanese capital of Khartoum and in Juba, the main city in southern Sudan.
