Iowa State University students float on concrete
AMES, Iowa - Iowa State University's concrete canoe team proves that concrete can float.
As the team prepares for regional competition later this month, it will make two public demonstrations of the concrete canoe it has named "Swashbuckler."
The 2005 Mid-West Regional Concrete Canoe Competition will be in Platteville, Wis., Saturday, April 23. The competition features team presentations about the canoes, aesthetic judging of the canoes and races. The races begin at 1 p.m. at Blackhawk Lake near Platteville. There will be men's, women's, and coed sprint and endurance races.

Iowa State University students will show off their concrete canoe at 3 p.m. April 17 at Ada Hayden Heritage Park in Ames and at 6 p.m. April 21 at 1213 Hoover Hall.
