Kanawha's Moeller recognized as Iowa SBDC woman entrepreneur of the year

AMES, Iowa -- Nancy Moeller, Kanawha, has been named the 2004 Deb Dalziel Woman Entrepreneur of the Year by the Iowa Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), an outreach arm of Iowa State University's College of Business.

She will be recognized at a ceremony from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6, in the community room at the Kanawha Public Library, Kanawha.

Moeller is owner of Inn the Hunt Luxury Sportsman's Lodge and CustomCraft Trailer Outfitters. CustomCraft Trailer Outfitters specializes in building living quarters into livestock and motor sports trailers.

Moeller was nominated and selected for the award because she managed to create and grow two businesses while overcoming a serious health problem. One of the businesses has grown to 35 employees.

"I am fortunate to have the skills, abilities and experience to provide valuable economic growth to this community," Moeller said. "Providing good jobs in a rural community should be the backbone of Iowa's economic strategy."

The Deb Dalziel Woman Entrepreneur Achievement Award honors an Iowa woman entrepreneur who has significantly changed or improved her life and the lives of those around her. The award is named in memory of Deb Dalziel, who was director of the Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Community College, Burlington, from 1987 until her death from cancer in 1999 at the age of 44.

Richard Petersen, director of the North Iowa Area Community College SBDC, nominated Moeller for this award.

In North Iowa, the Small Business Development Center is hosted by North Iowa Area Community College and is affiliated with the Iowa State University College of Business and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
