He will speak on "Current Topics Facing Today's Banking Industry" at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, in the Cardinal Room, Memorial Union. The lecture is free and open to the public. A pre-lecture lunch ($15 cost) will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Cardinal Room. Congressman Leach is former chairman of the House Committee on Financial Services. That committee oversees the nation's financial industry, including the Federal Reserve, U.S. Treasury and Securities and Exchange Commission. He is co-author of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act to make U.S. financial firms more competitive internationally and provide consumers more choices and lower fees in financial products. The Robert Stafford Lecture on Banking is sponsored by the College of Business and funded by the Ames National Corporation to honor Robert Stafford, longtime president and chairman of First National Bank, Ames. -30- |
