As a result of that story, Iowa State University's Instructional Technology Center received a call from WHO-TV's Dan Winter about purchasing the DVD. Employees at the Instructional Technology Center reproduced the DVD at cost and provided it to Winter. The only other copy known to have been sold was to a Des Moines Register reporter on Sept. 22. The DVD was created for the educational purposes of the Veishea Task Force. Iowa State University has determined that it does not have permission to reproduce the copyrighted portions of the DVD for sale to the public. Dean of Students Pete Englin, who indicated in the Ames Tribune story that DVDs would be available for purchase, apologized for the misunderstanding, saying he hadn't realized that copyright laws would prohibit sale of the DVD. The university has ordered that copies of the DVDs will not be distributed to the public. -30- |
