COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ANNOUNCES 2003 BUSINESS WEEK ACTIVITIES
AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University's College of Business will host its 18th annual Business Week Sept. 17-25. Students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited.
Business Week 2003 provides students the opportunity to network with business professionals and learn beyond the classroom. It also is an opportunity for faculty, students and alumni to meet informally.
The big event for most students will be on Wednesday, Sept. 24, when the College of Business, along with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will host Career Day. From 1 to 7 p.m., Hilton Coliseum will be home to more than 135 companies presenting exhibits about employment opportunities with their companies. This annual event draws thousands of students.
Following is a schedule of events for the week:
Wednesday, Sept. 17
Kickoff, high school visitation day, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Carver Hall. Iowa high school students will tour the new Gerdin Business building, as well as campus and residence halls. There also will be a College of Business adviser and student panel and an opportunity to visit with Iowa State business student mentors or observe a university class.
Thursday, Sept. 18
Mock Interviews, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Scheman Building. Business students will hone their resumes and presentations during these practice interviews with corporate interviewers.
Billiards tournament, 6-9 p.m., Memorial Union game room. Cost for the tournament is $6 per person. Registration forms are online on the Business Week Web site.
Friday, Sept. 19
2003 Business Week golf tournament, 1 p.m., Veenker Memorial Golf Course. Cost for the tournament is $40 per person. Registration forms are on the Business Week Web site.
Saturday, Sept. 20
Faculty/staff/student's softball game, 12:30 p.m., River Valley Park, 725 E. 13th St., Ames.
Sunday, Sept. 21
3-on-3 basketball tournament, 3 p.m., State Gym. Cost for the tournament is $2 per person. Registration forms are online on the Business Week Web site.
Monday, Sept. 22
Professional seminar on "Resume Construction and Design," hosted by Kathy Wieland, director of the College of Business' Career Services, 2 p.m., 68 Carver Hall.
Professional seminar on "Leadership and Building its Dimensions," hosted by Kate Anderson with Target Corp., 2 p.m., 160 Carver Hall.
Professional seminar on "Make Career Day Work for You," hosted by Steve Kravinsky, director of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Career Services, 3 p.m., 160 Carver Hall.
Business Etiquette Dinner, hosted by Charles Dobbs, assistant to the president, 5:30-7 p.m., Campanile Room, Memorial Union. Cost to students is $12. Tickets may be purchased in 204 Carver Hall or at the Business Week table in the Carver Hall Lobby. Reservations will be taken through noon, Friday, Sept. 18.
Tuesday, Sept. 23
Professional seminar on "Interviewing, the Employer's Viewpoint," hosted by Julie Sweeney, a corporate recruiter for Cargill Corp., 3 p.m., 1028 Black Engineering Building; repeated at 4:30 p.m., 244 Carver Hall.
Wednesday, Sept. 24
Career Day, 1-7 p.m., Hilton Coliseum.
Thursday, Sept. 25
Professional seminar on "Interviewing," hosted by Steve Kravinsky, 1 p.m., 1252 Howe Hall.
Professional seminar on "Opportunities in Iowa," hosted by Joel Feller with Iowa Human Resource Recruitment Consortium, 2 p.m., 1246 Howe Hall.
Professional seminar on "Financial Literacy for Students," hosted by Mark Oleson, assistant professor of human development and family studies and director of the ISU Financial Counseling Clinic, 3 p.m., 125 Kildee Hall.
