SENATOR HARKIN, FOREIGN POLICY EXPERT TO DISCUSS WAR IN IRAQ SATURDAY, NOV. 1
Ames, IA -- U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) and Shibley Telhami, Anwar Sadat Professor for Peace and Development at the University of Maryland, College Park, will discuss "The War In Iraq: A Forum," as part of Iowa State University's Institute on World Affairs Series, 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall, Music Building.
Harkin will address the impact of the war on Iraq and the cost of occupation. Telhami, senior fellow at the Saban Center, Brookings Institution, will discuss U.S. foreign policy and the roots of terrorism. He is a former fellow of the Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs, and in that capacity served as adviser to the U.S. delegation to the United Nations during the Iraq-Kuwait crisis.
Telhami has been a frequent foreign policy contributor to The Washington Post, The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times. He is the author of several publications on international politics and Middle Eastern affairs.
