NATIONAL HONOR FOR IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING STUDENT
AMES, Iowa -- Leslie Peterson, a senior in construction engineering at Iowa State University, has received the National Distinguished Design-Build Student Leader Award from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). Peterson, who was nominated by Todd Sirotiak, ISU adjunct assistant professor of construction engineering, was honored at the national DBIA conference in Orlando, Fla.
The award recognizes Peterson's work in integrated construction services, including planning, design, engineering and construction. She has participated in the mentorship program at Ellerbe Becket, Minneapolis, and has worked as a student intern with Weis Builders and M.A. Mortenson, both in Minneapolis. Peterson will join M.A. Mortenson in May, following her ISU graduation.
As president of ISU's DBIA student chapter the past two years, Peterson has overseen increased membership, including students from the department of civil, construction and environmental engineering and from the College of Design. She serves as secretary for the ISU student chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America and is the treasurer for Sigma Lambda Chi, the honor society for construction engineering. She was a member of the ISU team that won first place in a national design-build competition sponsored earlier this year by the Associated General Contractors of America and the Associated Schools of Construction.
