IOWA STATE ENROLLMENT INCREASES AGAIN IN 2002
AMES, Iowa -- Student enrollment at Iowa State University continued to rise in 2002.
Iowa State enrolled 27,898 students in fall 2002, an increase of 75 students compared to fall 2001. This is the third year in a row that Iowa State has established a student enrollment record.
Fall enrollment includes 23,399 undergraduate students (61 fewer than 2001) and a graduate student enrollment of 4,499 (an increase of 136 students). While the increase in total enrollment is modest, these numbers fall within the goals set by Iowa State.
"We're very pleased with this fall's enrollment. We decided many months ago that our goal would be to have a total that is comparable to last year, and that's where we are," said Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffroy. "Because of budget reductions, we have fewer faculty members than a year ago, but we're working hard to meet students' needs. Our continuing enrollment growth shows that students have confidence in Iowa State and want to get their education here."
The total number of in-state students was at 19,926 this year, a slight drop from the 20,024 enrolled last year. Out of state student enrollment increased to 7,972 students, up from 7,799 in 2001. Total minority student enrollment is 2,039, up from 1,943 in 2001.
