ISU PROFESSOR RECEIVES AIA IOWA EDUCATOR AWARD
AMES, Iowa -- Charlie Masterson, adjunct associate professor of architecture in Iowa State University's College of Design, received the AIA Iowa Educator Award from the Iowa Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, Sept. 27, during its annual convention in Des Moines.
The award recognizes individuals who have positively influenced many students, who are forward-thinking and who integrate other areas of expertise into their teaching. This is the fourth time the award has been given since its establishment in 1996.
Masterson joined the ISU architecture faculty in 1979. He has taught a variety of lecture courses, seminars and design studios for undergraduate and graduate students. He also has served as a major professor for many graduate theses. He chairs the departmental Architecture and Culture Committee and the College of Design Undergraduate Envisioning Task Force.
"Charlie is unique in his ability to ascertain the needs of individual students, to help them clarify their inquiry and focus their attention," said Kate Schwennsen, associate dean of Design and associate professor of architecture. "The products of his work are architects, community activists and educators engaged in architectural firms, design practices and universities throughout this country and around the globe. They, and we, have benefited from Charlie's expertise and example."
