ALLEN TO SERVE AS ISU INTERIM EXTERNAL AFFAIRS VP
AMES, Iowa -- Benjamin Allen, dean of the Iowa State University College of Business, will serve as interim vice president for external affairs.
Allen will begin his new responsibilities on July 1. It is a one-year appointment.
Allen succeeds Murray Blackwelder, who is leaving Iowa State to take a similar position at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind.
Iowa State's incoming president Gregory Geoffroy plans to conduct a national search for a permanent vice president for external affairs during the 2001 academic year.
Allen has been dean of the College of Business since 1995. His academic career includes two associations with Iowa State. From 1979 to 1990, he served in a number of positions in the college, including professor and chair of the department of transportation and logistics. He was named a Distinguished Professor of Business in 1988. He left Iowa State for a position at University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in 1990. Allen returned to Iowa State in 1991.
Allen received a B.S. (1969) in business economics from Indiana University, Bloomington, and an M.A. (1973) and a Ph.D. (1974) in economics, from the University of Illinois.
An interim dean for the College of Business will be announced soon.
