PETERS SELECTED IOWA STATE'S MATH DEPARTMENT INTERIM CHAIR
AMES, Iowa -- Justin Peters, professor of mathematics, has been named the interim chair of Iowa State University's department of mathematics.
Peters replaces Max Gunzburger as the department's chair. A national search will be conducted to find a permanent replacement.
A faculty member at Iowa State since 1976, Peters has served as the department of mathematics graduate student coordinator. Along with other colleagues in the department, he also organized the Great Plains Operator Theory Symposium in May 1999 on the Iowa State campus. In addition to his teaching duties at Iowa State, Peters has also served as an associate mathematician with the Ames Laboratory.
Peters earned a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and a bachelor's degree from Reed College in Portland, Ore.
