ISU PROFESSOR CHOSEN FOR FULBRIGHT PROGRAM IN GERMANY
AMES, Iowa -- Michelle Mattson, assistant professor of foreign languages and literatures at Iowa State University, has been selected for the 2000 Fulbright German Studies Program.
Mattson will participate in a three-week interdisciplinary seminar, "History and Memory: Jewish Past and Present in Germany," June 17 - July 7. Mattson was one of 25 U.S. college, university and community college German language and literature scholars chosen for the seminar.
The seminar will expose American academics to a broad spectrum of current German culture and society. Seminar participants will meet experts in German government, academia, cultural institutions and the media. The seminar will be held in Berlin and includes visits to several German cities.
The Fulbright program is funded and administered by the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Financial support is also provided by the German government. The presidentially appointed J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board formulates policy guidelines and makes the final selection of grantees.
