Author Sonia Nazario to speak at Iowa State University Sept. 23

AMES, Iowa -- Author and reporter Sonia Nazario will speak at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the Memorial Union Sun Room at Iowa State University. The event is free and open to the public.

As part of the Latino Heritage Month Celebration, Nazario will discuss her book, "Enrique's Journey," which was based on her award-winning newspaper series on the experiences of Latin American children immigrating to the United States. "Enrique's Journey" is about a young Honduran boy and his struggle to immigrate to the United States to reunite with his mother.

Nazario began her career as a reporter at The Wall Street Journal, and is currently a projects reporter for The Los Angeles Times. Growing up in Kansas and Argentina, she pursued her interest in social issues writing at Williams College and the University of California, Berkeley. After more than 20 years of writing about social issues, Nazario has won several awards, including the Pulitzer Prize for feature writing, the Grand Prize of the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and the George Polk Award for International Reporting.
