Promotions, new staff announced in ISU Student Affairs Division

AMES, Iowa - Vice President for Student Affairs Tom Hill today announced the following staff changes in his office, effective immediately:

  • Registrar Kathy Jones, who has served as interim assistant vice president for enrollment, has been named assistant vice president for enrollment.

    "Kathy is a solid professional who will continue to provide effective leadership and stability in the enrollment management area," said Todd Holcomb, associate vice president for student affairs.

  • Roberta Johnson, who has served as interim director of financial aid, has been named the new director of financial aid.

    "Roberta is extremely well-qualified for this position and knowledgeable about ISU and the financial aid profession. The Office of Student Financial Aid is critical to ISU's recruitment and retention efforts, and Roberta has proven that she is a very capable and effective leader in this arena," said Kathy Jones, assistant vice president for student affairs and registrar. Johnson will report to Jones.

  • Gail Ferlazzo has joined Iowa State University as associate director of the Memorial Union. She had served as director of the Campus Center/Campus Activities at Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove, Penn.

    "Gail's student development and facilities operations experience comes at a time when many changes are being implemented at the Memorial Union and in our student programs. We're thrilled to have her energy and experience on board as we undertake these major projects," said Richard Reynolds, Memorial Union director.

  • Mimi Benjamin has been hired as assistant to Vice President for Student Affairs Tom Hill. Benjamin previously served as coordinator of residence life - academic services in ISU's Department of Residence.

    "Mimi has stepped right into this position and has done an outstanding job helping to coordinate and communicate for the Division of Student Affairs," Hill said. "She has a broad sense of the issues affecting Student Affairs and the ability to work behind the scenes to get things accomplished."

  • Doug Gruenewald, who had served as assistant director of residence life, has assumed a full-time role as co-director of learning communities. He will report to Associate Vice President Holcomb.

    "Doug is an excellent individual to continue our expansion of the learning communities program and to refine the work we're currently doing in this important area," Holcomb said.
