"Hi. I've been using Infini-D since v.1.0 in '92. I've posted about this clipping plane issue before, although I'm never sure if my messages are actually getting onto the board. Could someone please verify that this has been received, since I understand that I cannot see my own messages.

Okay,... clipping planes. I called MC tech support about this problem months ago. I do a lot of architectural fly-throughs, where large planes and objects are always close to the camera. The tekkie said to me," oh yeah, clipping of the image is a noted bug in ray-tracing. It happens when an extraordinarily large object is close to the camera." I asked, "what's the fix?". Of course, the answer was,"4.2". Not content to wait, I embarked on my own hypothesis... that if a "large" object were broken down into many smaller objects, the clipping would go away. I was right.

So, I know this workaround won't work in all situations, and even in those that it does.... it's still a nuisance, but try this.

If you have created a large plane as an extrude object for example.... duplicate it, position it exactly the same as the original, then go into the editor and cut away half the profile in the original, copy the result, open the duplicate in the editor, paste and use the pasted vector as a guide to cut away the other half of the profile in the duplicate. Depending on how large your FOV and the plane, you may have to break it into smaller pieces. But it does work. If you attach all the duplicates as children to the original, even your maps will treat the broken pieces as a whole. "
