My name's Natalia Rogovska. I'm originaly from Ukraine; a land of
beautiful nature with fields and
meadows, hills dotted with green forests, mountains and valleys full of
beautiful flowers. There are not many things that
I love more than to take a walk in the forest at sun rise. It is so
peaceful...Seems that forest is still sleeping all
cuddled up in the fog. Because of love of nature I chose to pursue my degree in Agriculture.
I’m a student of Dr. Alfred Blackmer. He had led me through my M.S. and partly
Ph.D. programs at Iowa State University. Fred passed away at the end of
January 2006 after a long battle with cancer. He was more than a major
professor
to me. He was my family. I feel very fortunate that I had an opportunity to
know, to work, and to learn from Fred for more than five years. The most
important lessons that I’ve learned is to never give up if things don't go
right, and to never stop on already achieved, but keep on going. He taught it
by his own example. I’m finishing up my graduate work with Dr. Antonio Mallarino. As a
researcher I’m interested in
exploring new ways of using
geographic information system (GIS) technologies My current project is focused on studying soil characteristics that
influence the growth, development,
and final yields of soybean crop. My goal is to learn more about new ways to use GIS application in
production agriculture, as well as
closely cooperate with producers to implement new technologies on their farms.
In addition to being graduate student I love being a mom and a wife. I like
spending time with my
family and friends. In my free time I also enjoy sewing, playing tennis, cross
country skiing,
and cooking Ukrainian dishes. Our family often invites our friends over for
Ukrainian diners. They like it. |
