Better: Two squares will appear in the LCD. This selection uses less memory and allows for more pictures to be stored. However, some of the picture quality will be sacrificed.
Good: One square will appear in the LCD. This selection uses the least memory and allows for the most pictures to be stored.
How to Use:
Turning the Camera On:
- Pull the sliding cover away from the camera until the camera clicks.
- Icons will appear on the LCD on the back of the camera, indicating that the camera has been turned on.
The camera is ready to take pictures.
NOTE: If icons do not appear on the LCD, push the sliding cover closed and pull it open again. If the icons still do not appear, verify that the batteries are properly installed.
Automatic Power Off: The DC50 camera automaticaly turns off after 1, 2, or 4 minutes without use. This "save" mode conserves batteries. You can "wake" the camera and return it to a ready state either by lightly pressing any button or by closing and opening the sliding cover.
Turning the Camera Off: Push the sliding cover closed to turn off the camera.
Taking Pictures:
- Turn on the Camera
The LCD camera controls will illuminate.
- Hold the camera top side up with both hands. The right hand fingers should fit under the hand strap located on the right side of the camera.
- Pictures can be taken with a landscape or a portrait orientation, depending on how the camera is held. However, pictures can be rotated by most image editing software.
Landscape Portrait
- Look through the viewfinder and position desired picture subject.

Use the solid circle in the viewfinder to center objects when you're in wide-angle mode. Use the dotted circle to center objects in the telephoto mode.
- Press the purple button halfway down. The viewfinder light illuminates. The camera automatically measures the ambient lighting, sets the exposure, and focuses the lens. The viewfinder light flashes if your subject is too close or too far away. The DC 50 gives you the ability to specify a close-up or a distance focus.
- Hold the camera steady and press the purple button all of the way down. The green viewfinder light will start flashing. There is a brief delay between the time that the button is pressed and the time that the picture is actually taken and processed. The viewfinder light flashes for 12 seconds during the processing period. You can move the camera during this processing time, but you cannot take another picture until the viewfinder light stops flashing.
The number of pictures remaining is displayed by the "Pictures Remaining Counter" which flashes. See "LCD Camera Controls".
