Tech Scholars

With PT3 grant funding, Techco project was initiated in 1999 at Iowa State University. Techco (Technology Collaboratives for Simultaneous Renewal in Teacher Education Project) is aimed to create technology-based constructivist learning experience in a teacher education program and in collaborating schools. .

Several of Techco project's goals were addressed through the implementation of tech scholar program, which differs from the faculty technology mentoring program affiliated with CI610 course in its grant-funding source. Beginning in the summer of 2000, six faculty members in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) at Iowa State University applied for and were named as technology scholars. The tech scholars' program as part of the Techco project is to provide teacher educators with the necessary support to study and work one-one-one with a technology mentor to begin developing materials and ideas for integrating technology into courses that the Techco students would take the next year.
