Short Description

Professor Thomas Andre is a cognitive educational psychologist in the Departments of Curriculum and Instruction and Psychology. He as been at ISU since 1974.

His work has focused on instructional variables related to producing productive knowledge (or the generalization and use of taught information for solving problems) and adolescent development. His current research interest is in conceptual change in science learning and instruction. In particular, he is investigating the role of simulations and individual difference variables in promoting conceptual change. Conceptual change refers to instruction that is designed to lead students to reconstruct their knowledge so as to make it more consistent with the culture that uses the knowledge.
