M-STAR is a project being developed at Iowa State University's Center for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Education to help alleviate the shortages of superb math and science teachers the state is currently facing. This goal will be accomplished through several distinct action:
First: the establishment of math/science clubs throughout the state. These clubs will engage students in math/science activities and encourage the selection of teaching as a career.
Second: the establishment of a post-baccalaureate degree to enable holders of mathematics and science degrees to become certified to teach in the State of Iowa.
Third: to link new teachers with experienced mentor teachers for ongoing support and professional development.
