Indian Classical Music
India, in all its diversity and acceptance of foreign cultures, provides the listener with an unparalleled variety of musical styles. Apart from a rich folk music culture, the two main styles of Classical Music are Hindustani Classical which evolved in North India and Carnatic Classical which evolved in South India. A brief primer on the history of evolution of these styles can be found here.
While I enjoy listening to both styles, I am trained in the Carnatic style of Classical Indian Music. A concise account of the basics can be found here .
