Month #5

January 5, 2004

Happy New Year!  I had a really relaxing week of vacation at home.  It's the first time I've taken time off and not flown to some destination.  It was nice to relax and sleep, sleep, sleep!  Anyhow, I was thinking about my braces the other day.  I can't believe that in less than two weeks my braces will be 6 months old!  Time flies.  I think I'll go with smoke or pink colored ligatures next week.  I need a break from the bright colors.

I've also decided that I've made what could end up being a VERY bad decision. My next adjustment is January 15, at which time I'll be fitted with new wires and rubber bands. Later that evening I've made an appointment to have my teeth cleaned. Maybe I'm worrying for nothing, but I'd probably like to do each at different times. I guess I'll find out next Thursday!

As I've been looking through my pictures, it looks as though I have an open bite.  This is not the case - I have an overbite and an overjet.  In the first pictures that I took, I always kept my teeth apart so that everything would show clearly.  My December 18 picture shows my true bite.  There's been so much progress!

December 18, 2003

Wow!  It's five months to the day since I first got my braces put on, and I can hardly believe the progress.  My last adjustment was December 18, and Dr. Wass made it sound like things are going really well.  I will get new wires next time (.17X.25?) and I think I'll graduate into being a true metal-mouth because I'll get elastics!  I have a pretty deep overjet that he thinks can be corrected by pulling my top teeth back a bit and by pulling my lowers out a bit.  Of course, I don't know the technical parts of it, but I think it'll work.  I'll do whatever it takes to have great teeth!

Below: 5 months into treatment.  Color: Radical Red (but I think it looks orange)

Below: A look at my lowers - the gap is closed!
