The textbook for this course is Linear Algebra and its Applications (Third
Edition) by David C. Lay.
The course will be graded based on homework, two in-class exams, and the final
exam. Homework is 45% of your grade, each in-class exam is 15%, and the final is
25%. Approximate cut-offs
are 90% = A, 80% = B, 70% = C,
55% = D. Adjustments to this scale (such as plus/minus grades)
will be made at the instructor's discretion but only for your midterm and course
grades. If plus/minus
grading is used, the cut-offs listed will be for the corresponding letter grade with a minus.
(So 90% will be the minimum score for an A-, etc.)
Grades will be available
on the web, including approximate letter grades.
There is a syllabus at the bottom of this page.
You can now get to the vocabulary list.
Here is the link to the practice first in-class exam.
Here is a practice final. Because it's from
three years ago, it covers a slightly different set of topics. Use it only
as a guide to difficulty of problems.
Here are suggested problems for the last two lectures: Section 6.2/ #2, 5, 10,
15 Section 6.4/ #3, 11. You do not need to turn these problems in;
they will not be graded.
Office hours for finals week are:
Tuesday 10 -12 and 2-4, Wednesday 2-4, Thursday 10-12.
Expect exams to be graded by Friday morning with grades available on the web
Friday afternoon.
Late homework assignments will be graded when I have time but there is
no penalty for late homework. (This policy may change if there is too much late homework.)
