Works Cited

1) For books, you can find the information you need on the title page and the copyright page.
2) For each entry, do not indent the first line; every line after the first is indented five spaces. This is called a hanging indent.
3) Alphabetize your entries.
4) The text should be double-spaced and in 12-point font.
5) The reference page should be titled "Works Cited", and should be centered.
6) The Works Cited page does not have a header, and does not count as one of the pages of your paper (so if the instructor wants a five page paper, the Works Cited page does not count as the fifth page).

2) Title or subtitle in italics or underlined.
3) Place of publication, publisher, date.

  • Citing a Magazine Article:

2) Title of the article in quotation marks.
3) Title of the magazine, in italics or underlined.
4) Date and page numbers, seperated by a colon.

  • Citing an Article from a Journal with Volumes:
1) Author's name (Last, First).
2) Title of the article in quotation marks.
3) Title of the magazine, in italics or underlined.
4) Volume number, Date in parenthesis, and page numbers, seperated by a colon.

  • Citing a Work From a Service (such as Infotrac or EbscoHost):
1) Author of the work.
2) Title of work underlined, in italics, or in quotation marks.
3) Name of Journal underlined or in italics.
4) Volume number, Date in parenthesis, and page numbers, seperated by a colon.
5) Name of the database, underlined.
6) Name of service.
7) Name and location of library (that pays for service).
8) Date you accessed the source.
9) The URL of the service.

  • Citing a Website:
1) Author of the site (if known).
2) Title of site underlined.
3) Names of editors (if any).
4) Date of publication, or last update.
5) Name of sponsoring organization.
6) Date of access.
7) URL in angle brackets.
