COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS:
BOYS:  This was our poorest overall performance as a team this season.  While Tony Fischels and Chris Wardell continue to run well, we will have to become more consistent if we hope to accomplish our goals at the end of the season.  Tony, once again, ran a tremendous race taking control early in running very well on a tough course.  The boys course has been same for several years and Tony’s time is one of the better efforts we have had there.  Chris Wardell ran alone in second throughout the race and is also performing well.  After that, we had a huge gap.  Nevada, whom we had beaten by 30 points at Ballard, put all 7 of their runners ahead of our #3 runner.  Joel Abbott, Dustin Rich and Jesse Ogg pack ran in our 3-5 positions.  Dustin and Jesse showed some improvement.  Regular #3 and #4 runners Nick Barnes and Alex Flege had exceptionally difficult races and fell back quickly.  On the J.V. side, a number of our athletes competed quite well.  I was very pleased with the way they battled for positions and moved up throughout the race.
GIRLS:  Overall, we had a pretty good effort from our girls team.  Our top 3 moved forward well after opening a bit too conservatively.  Kelsey Tompkins, once again, had a strong final 800 meters to lead us.  Shannon Kane and Emily Long also moved forward nicely throughout the race.  Katie Greufe and Becky Perin showed significant improvement as they moved into scoring positions for us.  The course was considerably short and so our times are not clear indicators of our effort.  We did run without our #1 runner from the last two meets, freshman Ashley Grimm who sat out the meet due to tendonitis in her knees.  We also have lost top 5 runner and two time returning letter winner Ashley Hanson for the season to a broken foot sustained at our homecoming homeroom games.  Ashley Grimm will return to our line-up this Thursday as we participate in the Ft. Dodge Invitational.  Our junior varsity competed well.  Jessie Severson went out aggressively and ran at the front of the race.  Elizabeth Johnson had perhaps the best effort of anyone on the team constantly moving forward throughout the race.  Ashton Jacobson also ran well.
