| COACH BUSSAN’S COMMENTS: | ||||
| Boys: As a team, we were in close competition with Shenandoah and Denison who are considered to be the two top southwest Iowa 3A teams. The boys team had some individuals make progress at this meet. Joel Abbott ran, by far, his best race of the year. Using a strong push over the final mile of the race, Joel moved up several spots to finish 21st. It was very exciting to see him step up to the role of being our #3 runner. Tony had an outstanding race with 4A 8th ranked Corbin Miller of Marshalltown. They ran together until the final 600 meters when Miller, (a 1:53 800M runner) used his speed to separate. Chris Wardell battled Phil Clemens of Harlan, (ranked in the top 15 3A), and out leaned him at the tape. | ||||
| Girls: Our girls finished 5th in a very tight battle with Marshalltown and Denison. We gapped throughout our line-up but had some strong individual performances. Freshman Ashley Grimm moved to the front of our squad passing Shannon Kane with approximately 1 mile left in the race. Shannon also ran strong. The remainder of our line-up spread out. Freshman Katie Greufe continues to improve. Immediately prior to the race, I decided to withdraw junior Ashley Hanson due to a hip injury. There was not enough time to substitute and therefore we ran 6 in the varsity race. Our junior varsity girls ran a great team race against Marshalltown to finish runner-up in the J.V. competition. Jennie Bunkofske and Becky Perin led the way with strong support from Jessie Severson and Emily Sewick. | ||||
