Description
The Pitcher is a device designed to allow children with disabilities to be
the pitcher in a game of baseball. The Pitcher propels a lightweight whiffle
ball approximately forty to fifty feet to the batter.
Target Audience
The Pitcher is designed to be used by any child that is limited in his or her
throwing capabilities. It has a low to the ground design which allows for
a child in a wheelchair to pull up beside it. The child must have some upper
body ability as this device requires the child to be able to pick up a whiffle
ball and place it in the tube. Since the Pitcher will only throw whiffle
balls, it is safe for children 5 and up.
Total Cost
The approximate cost of building is $240
Tools Required for Construction
The tools required for construction are general hand tools and access to a
welder and milling machine. This design requires a small amount of experience
using a welder and a milling machine.
Safety Considerations
The Pitcher is a safe device as long it is not misused.
