Instructions for Sample Submission:

Samples can be submitted to the mass spec lab (room 1707, Gilman Hall) anytime between 9 am and 6 pm, Monday through Friday. There are two types of forms: yellow forms and green forms. The yellow ones are the TSQ700 forms and concern samples submitted for unit resolution EI, CI, APCI and ESI. The green forms are mainly for high resolution EI, and eventually CI and FAB. Samples are to be submitted in screw cap vials with teflon septa to avoid any contamination. For solids the amount needed for EI or CI experiments is usually less than a ug. For GC/MS requests, we suggest an amount of 0.1 ml with a concentration of about 500 ng/ul of material. For ESI and some special experiments, please consult with the mass spec personnel. A GC trace is strongly preferred when requesting GC/MS experiments. High resolution experiments will be performed more effectively if the corresponding low resolution spectrum is first obtained. It is highly recommended to submit a copy of the low resolution data and specify which ions are of interest. This will tell us which peaks manual peak matching is to be performed. If the molecular ion is not observed, look at the low resolution data and pick some peaks that you believe are fragments.
