HYPOCRELLIN A

Hypocrellin, like hypericin, is a naturally occurring polycyclic quinone. It is found in a type of mold (Hypocrella bambusae) that grows in the orient. We are studying it because it also has been shown to display antiviral activity. This antiviral activity is light activated, and we use time-resolved spectroscopic techniques to study the excited state processes of this molecule.
